Student bodies decry Thoubal incident

Imphal, November 26 2025: Various student bodies of the State have condemned yesterday's incident wherein a bus carrying security personnel knocked down two girls, killing one on the spot and leaving another critically injured and demanded strict action against the security personnel involved.

The incident occurred along Asian Highway-1 in front of Thoubal Fire Service Station at around 2 pm .

While Sarina Singamayum (15) lost her life in the unfortunate incident, Singamayum Nasima (15) sustained grievous injuries.

Both were students of Fancier Higher Secondary School, Thoubal.

Statements released by the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK), The All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) and All Manipur Girl Students' Union (AMMGSU) have accused the security personnel of failing to show a shred of humanity in the aftermath of the incident.

According to the press notes, instead of taking the girls to the nearest hospital, the police personnel dragged the deceased girl by the foot from underneath the bus and proceeded to speed away.

Condemning the "inhumane act" shown by the security personnel who are supposed to protect the public, the student bodies have demanded the concerned department/authority to take strict action against the security personnel involved in the incident.

In addition FESOK has urged the public to drive within the speed limit and to slow down their vehicles near schools, colleges etc to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future.

Extending their condolences, AMSU, FESOK, AMMSO and AMMGSU have also shared the grief of the bereaved family and wished a speedy recovery to Singamayum Nasima.
