Two-day academic seminar underway

Imphal, July 24 2025:
Two academic events focusing on digital development and language learning commenced on Thursday at Manipur University, drawing students, and scholars from various fields.
The two-day international seminar held at the university's Court Hall, aims to explore the theme "Digital, Diversity, Democracy & Development: Exploring Internet's Impact on Conflict Dynamics, Peace Building, Democracy and Regional Development in North East India".
The seminar is being organised by MU Department of Political Science in collaboration with the Council for Social & Digital Development (CSDD) and the North East Development Foundation (NEDF), with support from the North Eastern Social Research Centre (NESRC) and the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT).
The inaugural session was attended by Manipur University vice-chancellor Prof N Lokendra Singh, dean of the School of Social Sciences Prof Memcha Loitongbam, CSDD, Guwahati director Dr Syed Sultan Kazi, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi director Sanjay Kumar, and head of the university's Political Science department Prof N Bijen Meetei.
Students from various departments also participated in the session.
On the same day, a lecture series cum workshop on "Communication and Translation" was launched at the English Lecture Hall of the university.
Organised by the Department of English and Cultural Studies with support from the English Alumni Association, the event was attended by former Union Minister of State Dr RK Ranjan Singh as chief guest, IQAC director Prof Rajmani Singha as president, and School of Humanities dean Prof N Pramodini Devi as guest of honour.
Speaking at the event, English Department head Prof Irom Gambhir informed that the programme aims to facilitate student exchanges by enabling students from the region, who are fluent in English, to travel to places like Bangkok and improve cross-cultural communication.
He added that the initiative will also allow international students to undertake English language internships in Manipur.
