'Sundays on Cycle' rallies held in Imphal to promote Fit India Movement

Imphal, May 24 2026:
Imphal witnessed three separate cycling events on Sunday as part of the 'Sundays on Cycle' initiative under the Fit India Movement, drawing participation from athletes, security personnel, and the public to promote fitness and healthy lifestyles.
The Sports Authority of India, North East Regional Centre, Imphal, organised a special "Sundays on Cycle Commonwealth Games Edition" at SAI NERC, Takyel.
Nambol AC MLA Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh flagged off the rally as chief guest.
Over 100 participants, including Commonwealth Games athletes, coaches, officials, and fitness enthusiasts, took part.

Appreciating the initiative, Basanta Kumar said "Sundays on Cycle" inspires people, especially the youth, to adopt active and healthy lifestyles through regular physical activity.
He stressed that sports and fitness are vital for building a healthy society and fostering positive habits among the younger generation.
Nameirakpam Kunjarani Devi, Olympian and Padma Shri awardee Nameirakpam Kunjarani Devi, shared her sporting journey and urged youth to stay dedicated and disciplined.
Commonwealth Games medallists hailed India's progress in sports infrastructure and expressed confidence ahead of the Centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad in 2030.The event concluded with felicitation of medallists and participants.
Separately, 86 Bn CRPF, Lamphelpat, organised a cycle rally under the IG, M&N Sector, as part of the "Fit India Movement - Sunday on Cycle" initiative.
Supervised by Commandant Saurabh Kumar Choudhary, the rally began from Battalion Headquarters and passed through RIMS Hospital, Sanakeithel Market, Thangmeiband, Lamphel Super Market and adjoining areas.
Officers and personnel participated enthusiastically to spread awareness on physical fitness and the role of sports in daily life.
Meanwhile, officers and jawans of 143 Bn CRPF, Lamphelpat, also took part in the 75th edition of the "Sundays on Cycle" rally as per Government of India directions under the Fit India Movement.
The rally began from 143 Bn HQr, Lamphelpat, and proceeded to Kangla Fort before returning to the Unit HQr via Airport Road and Naoremthong.
The drive aimed to promote fitness, healthy living, and mass participation in cycling, while spreading awareness about the importance of good health as part of the force's social responsibility towards the community.
