Beyond grades: Shija Hospitals CMD urges medicos to engage with society

Dr Palin Khundongbam, Chairman cum Managing Director of Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI), stated that becoming a competent doctor involves more than just achieving high marks.
Addressing an audience at the 4th Award Ceremony of the Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS), Dr Palin stressed the importance of societal and environmental engagement for medical professionals.
The event, held at the SJ Auditorium within the Shija Hospital complex, was organised to honor meritorious students who performed exceptionally well in the various MBBS examinations conducted by Manipur University in 2025.During the event, a total of 37 selected students, who secured top positions and the highest marks in various subjects among the four medical colleges under Manipur University, were presented with gold medals, citations, and mementos.
Dr Palin attributed the students' success not only to their hard work but also to the combined efforts of the institute's faculty members and parents.
He asserted that the awards were presented to encourage the students to work harder and become good doctors, reminding them that the award is a start to their journey, not the end.
He reminded all that the profession requires strong interaction with the public, regardless of high exam scores.
Dr Palin also addressed infrastructural challenges, mentioning ongoing efforts to improve facilities and rectify inconveniences related to parking and playgrounds within the current year.
SAHS Director Dr M Amuba and SAHS Academic Dean Dr Th Naranbabu also attended the ceremony as the president and guest of honour respectively.
