Rupmahal Theatre marks 83rd anniversary; drama festival kicked off

Imphal, December 23 2025: Rupmahal Theatre celebrated its 83rd anniversary today and kicked off the 24th Rupmahal Artiste's Memorial Drama Festival 2025-26 in collaboration with Manipur State Kala Akademi.

Held at Rupmahal Theatre, the 34th Meitram Bira Award was also handed over to Kshetrimayum Somorendro (Arangpham) from Wangkhei on the occasion.

The joint event was attended by Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata as the chief guest and Sorensangbam Lakhikanta, Chairman, Rupmahal Theatre as the functional president.

Addressing the gathering, N Ranjit Meitei, Secretary, Rupmahal Theatre said that the 34th Meitram Bira Award was jointly sponsored by the family of M Bira and Rupmahal Theatre.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000, a citation and a shawl.

Saying that this is the first time the drama festival has been organised in association with MSKA, he added that dramas will be showcased from tomorrow onwards and continue till January 12.Twelve teams will take part in the 24th Rupmahal Artiste's Memorial Drama Festival 2025-26 .
