Tamenglong, May 22 2026:
In pursuance of the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), the district administration of Tamenglong has informed that pre-monsoon water quality testing of drinking water sources will be carried out across the district by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Tamenglong.
Altogether 13 villages in Tamenglong Assembly Constituency.
14 villages in Tamei, and 23 villages in Tousem Assembly Constituency have been identified for the testing programme.
In this regard, all concerned village authorities have been requested to collect water samples from their respective drinking water sources and submit them to the office of the PHED, Tamenglong for laboratory testing and analysis.
As per the guidelines issued by the department, water samples should be collected in a clean one-litre drinking water bottle.
The bottle must be properly labelled with the name of the village, name of the water source, type of source such as spring, river, pond, tap or reservoir, and the date of collection.
The department has advised that the samples be submitted on the same day of collection, and that contact number be clearly mentioned.
The district administration has further appealed to all village authorities to extend necessary cooperation and ensure timely submission of water samples on or before May 30, for effective monitoring of drinking water quality under the JJM.
It may be mentioned that the primary objective of water quality testing under the Jal Jeevan Mission is to ensure the supply of safe, clean and potable drinking water to rural households.
The testing process also aims to prevent waterborne diseases, assess the effectiveness of water treatment systems, and empower local communities to monitor their own water quality.
