The meeting organised by District Health Society, Bishnupur was held at the Conference Hall of the Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur, and saw active participation from all committee members.
In her address, DC Pooja Elangbam emphasized that Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) pose a significant public health concern, particularly affecting children.
She noted that worm infections can hinder nutrient absorption, contributing to anaemia, malnourishment, and impaired mental and physical development among children.
She urged all stakeholders to carry out the deworming initiative with utmost dedication, ensuring maximum coverage of children aged 1-19 years across the district.
Dr John Kh, Paediatrician at District Hospital Bishnupur, served as the resource person for the session.

It may be noted that the primary goal of National Deworming Day is to deworm all preschool and school-age children (both enrolled and non-enrolled) in the 1-19 age group via schools and Anganwadi Centres.
The initiative aims to improve children's overall health, nutritional status, educational outcomes, and quality of life.
During the meeting, it was decided that National Deworming Day in Bishnupur district will be launched on October 30, 2025 .
