Awareness programme on child rights held at Henchungpunji

A one-day sensitisation-cum-awareness programme on "Child Rights and Protection" was organised at Henchungpunji village in Pherzawl district on Sunday.
The programme was organised by District Child Protection Officer, Pherzawl, Ningombam Sundari, in association with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Pherzawl, Department of Social Welfare, and the Bishnupur District Rural Social Welfare Society (BDRSWS) under the initiative of the Director of Social Welfare.
The awareness programme focused on key child protection issues, including the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, child marriage, child labour and Mission Vatsalya.
Among those present were Pherzawl Police Station ASI Suantak Alum Vaiphei, Henchungpunji village chief Duoilo and HNU Block-IV finance secretary Laltuoklien.
Resource persons highlighted the importance of safeguarding children's rights, preventing child labour and ensuring the protection and welfare of children through effective implementation of child protection laws.
As part of the programme, children were provided with clothes, notebooks, pens and sports equipment, including footballs, volleyballs, nets and a carrom board.
Posters carrying messages on child rights and protection were also distributed and displayed across the village to raise public awareness.
