Imphal/Chandel, June 17 2015 : For the first time after the June 4 ambush which had claimed lives of 18 soldiers and two insurgents some Imphal based scribes visited the affected villages on Tuesday.

All houses at Paraolon were deserted while some abandoned domestic animals followed the scribes silently begging for something to eat.

One starving cat had died and its decomposed body was inside a room.

Animal activists could rescue one starved and dehydrated dog and three cats.

The villagers of Moltuk 10 km from the ambush place are not alllowed to go to their fields.

However once in a week they are allowed to fetch essential commodities in bus.

All schools are also closed.

Contrary to reports the scribes could not find any army personnel at Paraolon which is one km away from the ambush site.

Two charred trucks were brought and kept in a playground near the village.

It is understood that the fleeing villagers are taking shelter at the district headquarters to sponge off their relatives and friends.

Three villages are completely deserted since the villagers fear harassments.

Chandel: Chandel District administration has been closely monitoring the prevailing situation of the district for return to normalcy in the aftermath of the June 4 ambush.

This was stated by Deputy Commissioner (DC), Chandel Robert Singh Kshetrimayum while interacting with newspersons at his chamber Tuesday afternoon.

Informing about the efforts taken up by the district administration for safety of the villagers and the kind of possible assistance the administration has been providing, Robert said that based on the concerns raised by the villagers, a team led by SDO of Chandel Neilenthang Telien visited Paraolon, Challong, Kotal Khunthak and Moltuk villages after the ambush on the 6th Dogra Regiment personnel.

At Moltuk, the team met Major Joshi and Captain Minthang and had a discussion relating to the concern raised by the villagers that included safety of the villagers while venturing out into their fields and the forest for earning livelihood.

During the discussion, the army particularly, the Dogra Regiment assured that no retaliatory action would be taken up against innocent civilians.

He also informed that the DIG of 26 Sector Assam Rifles and the CO of 26 AR in their reply to the district administration had assured for safety and security of the villagers.

Informing the meeting held with the chiefs of the affected village and the Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) at his chamber, the DC said that after hearing the plight and grievances of the villagers, assurance for all kinds of assistance for return to normalcy was assured to those present in the meeting.

Meanwhile, the CNPO and some village chiefs have also met DIG of 26 Sector Assam Rifles on Tuesday and highlighted their grievances.

It was informed that the DIG during the meeting gave positive assurance to the chiefs.
