Lady officers to man polling stations

Imphal, January 17 2014 : For the first time, lady em-ployees would be assigned election duties in some polling stations during the forthcoming Lok Sabha election on experimental basis.

This was decided during a meeting of Dis-trict Election Officers (DEOs) and EROs held in the conference hall of Secretariat South Block this morning.

The meeting was presid-ed by Chief Electoral Officer O Nabakishore.

The meeting agreed that the DEOs would submit their district election plans to the CEO within a week, conveyed an official source.

The DEOs were instructed to undertake vi-deo mapping of all the structures which would be used as polling stations and check their vulnerability as well as availability of drinking water and other basic facilities.

To compile a data base of Central and State Government employees who would be assigned poll duties was another resolution of the meeting.

The CEO asked the DEOs and EROs to work out the total number of poll personnel required for the Lok Sabha election.

To launch a special drive in order to enrol 84,963 eligible young males and 39,428 young females in the electoral roll was another decision of the meeting.

An awareness campaign in this regard would be carried out in schools and colleges by campus ambassadors appointed by the Election Commission.

It further agreed to observe the National Voters' Day on January 25 at the State, district, sub-division and polling station levels.

The meeting decided to invite the Governor to grace the State level National Voters' Day observance at MFDC as chief guest.

Some selected newly enrolled young electors would be feted at the National Voters' Day observance with PVC voter cards.
