Imphal, May 16 2026:
The newly formed Administrative Committee of eight Gram Panchayats under Kshetrigao AC on Saturday clarified that earth being excavated for river embankment repair is from State Land Dag No 40-Uyok Achouba, Kshetrigao Bengoon, and not from any Reserve Forest area.
Addressing the media at KIYSC complex, Kshetrigao Awang Leikai, Committee Chairperson Md Rafi Khan said false claims are being spread on social media and in sections of the press.
He asserted the site is State Land belonging to Kshetrigao Bengoon village, settled as government khasland under a 2016 Manipur Gazette notification after a Revenue Department survey.
Rafi Khan said seven local clubs have initiated the process for permission and submitted a letter to the Imphal East DC.
He added that work began after receiving a signal from officials, with formal approval expected in a day or two.
The earth is being used under MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan's supervision to repair vulnerable riverbanks that have breached thrice in the past year, causing floods in Kshetrigao, Kongpal, Thambalkhong and nearby areas.
He urged the Forest Department and public not to obstruct the work, warning of legal action against attempts to malign the MLA.
Also present were chairpersons and members of the newly formed Administrative Committees of eight Gram Panchayats under Kshetrigao AC.
Representatives from seven local clubs - YWC Thambalkhong, OYO Kongpal, KSDO Kongpal Khaidem Leikai, YPO Kshetri Bengoon Awang Leikai, KIYC Kshetri Awang Leikai, ABA Kshetri Mayai Leikai, and KPYC Kshetri Bengoon- also took part in the press meet.
