Cultural workshops conclude with productions in Imphal

Imphal, September 13 2026: Three different workshops organised under the Chief Ministergi Artist Singgi Tengbang (CMAT) Scheme of the Department of Art & Culture, Manipur, concluded in Imphal today.

The month-long workshop cum production on "Nat Sankirtan- Nupa Macha Pala" organised by Shree Shree Govindaji Nat Sankirtan, Wangkhei Palace Compound, concluded at Wangkhei Durga Puja Lampak (YVO) Community Hall.

BJP Manipur Pradesh state general secretary Langpoklakpam Deben Singh, SSGNS Imphal president M Babu Singh, retired Pradhan Guru JNMDA Phanjoubam Iboton Singh and MSKA awardee retired Guru (JNMDA) Konsam Kumar Singh attended as presidium members.

Artistes of Govindaji Nat Sankirtan also presented 'Nupa Macha Pala'.

Publicity secretary Dr Chakpram Narendra said Nata Sankirtan is indispensable from birth to death but the number of learners for Nupa Pala has declined sharply.

He said disturbance complaints due to Pena playing at home and lack of halls for poor artistes, coupled with competitive schooling and tuition, have reduced learning time.

At Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) Hall, Lianda Folk & Classical Academy (LFCA), Nagamapal Soram Leirak, concluded its 30-day workshop cum production on "Manipuri Dance and Music" .

Art and Culture Department Joint Director G Dharmadas Sharma attended as chief guest, Regular English High School Headmaster Soibam Phulendro as president and Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory director Yumnam Sadananda as guest of honour.

G Dharmadas praised the talent of participating children and said Lianda Academy has been producing good child artistes for years.

The academy presented Lai Haraoba, Pena Eshei, Taal Nachom, Mao Naga Dance, Kabui Naga Dance, etc.

Meanwhile, Sur Musical Institute (SMI) concluded its 15-day workshop on "Manipuri Traditional and Folk Music (Khullang Eshei)" and staged its new production "Yaaralpat" at Dharmalaya Community Hall, Nahabam.

G Dharmadas Sharma and Manipur State Kala Academy Awardee (Music) Dr Yumnam Suren attended as presidium members.

Dr Y Suren said singing is inseparable from human life and called for efforts to preserve Khunung Eshei and Khullang Eshei.
