IBSD organises training cum distribution of aromatic planting materials

BRIC-Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal in collaboration with MASTEC, Manipur have successfully conducted a 1-Day Hands on Training cum Distribution of Quality Aromatic planting Materials at IBSD, Imphal today for the first phase.
As per a release issued by IBSD, the programme was attended by around 150 participants including 30 progressive farmers and State Government officials.
Inaugurating the event, Kengoo Zurengla, Secretary, Department of Sciences & Technology (DST), Manipur, highlighted the significance of aromatic plants and income generation in progressive farmers of Manipur.
Dr Sarangthem Indira Devi, Scientist- F, Principal Investigator of the project highlighted the importance of hands-on training on aromatic plants.
She also emphasized the importance of popularization of aromatic plant plantation in Manipur as a source of employment and income generation to improve the socio-economic conditions of the region.
Dr Nanaocha Sharma, Program Chair, Director (Additional Charge), BRIC-IBSD Imphal highlighted about the research activities carried out by IBSD and various societal activities taken up by the institute at Imphal, Shillong, Sikkim and Mizoram centre.
He also emphasized the economic potential of cultivation of aromatic plants as a sustainable business venture at IBSD, Imphal.
The farmers were trained on successful cultivation techniques of aromatic plants.
The training further demonstrated innovation cultivation techniques and distributed around 3.5 lakh slips of aromatic plants to the farmers from various hill districts of Manipur.
