Imphal, June 11 2025: Khurai MLA L Susindro Meitei has said that construction of houses for eight families ravaged by the recent flood is likely to be completed in the next 7-8 days as the work is making good progress.

Notably, eight houses in Khurai Heikhrumakhong area under Khurai assembly constituency were washed away by the flood waters after the Imphal river bank breached in the recent flood.

After MLA Susindro assured to construct houses for the affected families without waiting funds from the government, work started since June 8 to rebuild the houses for the eight families in distress with the local MLA bearing the entire costs.

On Wednesday, Susindro, who personally assessed progress of the house construction, told media persons that the recent flood completely flattened eight houses at Heikhrumakhong area while several other houses were also damaged badly.

He said that construction of eight houses for the first phase had begun and necessary steps will be initiated in the second phase for severely damaged houses.

According to L Susindro, construction of eight houses were actually targeted for completion within five days but could not meet the tentative deadline owing to certain factors.

However, all possible efforts would be made to complete the houses in 7/8 days, he affirmed.

The MLA also acknowledged the help extended by volunteers of the Indian Red Cross Society to the flood-ravaged families of Khurai Heikhrumakhong.

While reiterating that he is funding construction of the eight houses as there has been no assistance from the government side as on date, MLA Susindro also disclosed that he started embankment of the Imphal river in Khurai AC area from the year 2012 but there is no release of fund from the centre.

The MLA also confided that certain amount from his MLA LAD fund would be utilised in construction of retaining wall along with the vulnerable portions of the river bank.

He further informed media persons that the department Sanctioned only-90 bamboo sheets, 50 bamboos and 5,000 empty cement bags for Khurai area in the recent flood.

MLA Susindro also announced that Imphal river bank from Lamlong to Khurai Heikrumakhong will be raised by at least 2/3 feet and earth work for the same is progressing at fast pace.
