Imphal, May 11 2026:
A programme titled "Comprehensive Environmental Awareness Campaign" aimed at spreading awareness on ecological conservation, environmental protection and promotion of sustainable practices was held today at Chongdan village in Kamjong district.
The programme was organised as part of the ongoing environmental campaign spearheaded by environmental activist Jojo Robertson with support from the village authority.
It may be mentioned that Jojo Robertson had earlier conducted similar awareness programmes at Tarong, Ashang Khullen and Nongdam villages under Kasom Khullen subdivision.
The ongoing campaign aims to plant around 2,000 tree saplings across the sub-division while also creating awareness among local residents on the importance of environmental conservation and protection of natural resources.
Speaking on the occasion, Jojo Robertson highlighted the growing environmental challenges being faced across the globe, including rising temperatures and sudden changes in weather and rainfall patterns.
He stated that protection and preservation of forests remain one of the most effective ways to combat climate change and environmental degradation.
He also stressed the need to conserve and protect wildlife alongside forest resources.
Jojo Robertson further said that several research studies conducted in recent years have revealed the presence of various medicinal plants in Kamjong district.
However, many of these valuable species are now becoming increasingly rare and difficult to find.
As part of the campaign, he informed that apart from planting 2,000 saplings, plans are also underway to distribute tree saplings to selected villages and expand the awareness initiative to Imphal in the coming days.
