Nepali Sahitya Parishad mourns demise of Prof Durga Sharma

The Nepali Sahitya Parishad, Manipur expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of its former president, Professor Durga Sharma.
In a press release, the Parishad announced that a condolence gathering was held today at Kanglatongbi Hindi Secondary, where heartfelt prayers were offered for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
The gathering was graced by Pandit Ramprasad Paudyel as chief guest; and presided over by Sita Devi Chettri, president of the Nepali Sahitya Parishad, Manipur.
During the gathering, speakers fondly recalled Prof Sharma's lifelong contributions to education, the Nepali language and literature.
They praised her as a pillar of Nepali literary advancement in Manipur and a source of pride for the entire community.
Professor Durga Sharma had an illustrious career, serving as Professor at DM College of Arts & Commerce.
She was also an active member of the Parishad, having served as vice-president from 1999 and later as president from 2004 to 2013 .
Her notable works include the translation of Again Singh Giri's work "Yuddha Ra Yoddha" into Manipuri as "Lan Amasung Lanmi", for which she received the prestigious Padma Devi Award in 2025 .
