Manipuri Sahitya Samiti Thoubal to announce biennial literary awards

Thoubal, February 06 2026: The Manipuri Sahitya Samiti, Thoubal, has announced that it will soon declare the recipients of its prestigious biennial literary awards, which are conferred once every two years to recognise outstanding contributions to Manipuri literature.

According to the Samiti, the awards to be announced include the Ningombam Ongbi Pramodini Ningsing Sahitya Award for poetry; Akoijam Chaoton-Rajkumari Muktasana Ninging Sahitya Award for short stories; Akoijam Oja Bijoy Ningsing Sahitya Award for translation; Akoijam Ongbi Binodini Ningsing Sahitya Award for long stories; Thiyam Ongbi Takhellambam Ningol Ibechaobi Ningsing Sahitya Award for children's literature; Kabi Leitanthem Ram Singh Ningsing Award for drama/playwright; Akoijam Ongbi Shija Ningsing Sahitya Award for literary for literary essays (Neina Wareng); Akoijam Ongbi Shyama Ningsing Sahitya Award for writers below 40 years of age; Akoijam Bhuban Singh Ningsing Sahitya Award for song lyrics; Akoijam Ibecha Devi Ningsing Award for Manipuri Nat; and Akoijam Lilabati Devi Ningsing Award for Life Time Achievement for writers above 70 years of age, among others.

As the Samiti is unable to collect all books released by writers across the State, it has urged authors to submit three copies each of their books release during 2024-25 to the Manipuri Sahitya Samiti, Thoubal, or at designated locations, including the District Library, Thoubal Awang Leikai; Loukrakpam Shyam Singh, Thoubal Wangmataba (7005346496); Yaibiren Communication, Uripok Opp Cheirap Court; and Siroi Offset Printers, Thoubal Bazar.

The Samiti further informed that for the Thiyam Ongbi Takhellambam Ningol Ibechaobi Ningsing Sahitya Award and the Akoijam Bhuban Singh Ningsing Sahitya Award, books released between 2023 and 2025 will be considered for submission.
