Moirang, November 04 2025:
An indefinite bandh has been enforced along the Kumbi-Wangoo State Highway by the Meira Paibis and residents of the area, protesting the government's continued inaction in repairing the badly damaged road, which serves as a vital lifeline for the people of Kumbi AC and an important link for Bishnupur district with other parts of the region.
The agitation follows the authorities' failure to meet the deadline set by the locals and Meira Paibis on October 31, demanding that repair work on the road begin by November 3.From early morning, large numbers of people from Kumbi Lamlong, Kumbi Keithel, and adjoining villages came out and began blocking the road, effectively halting all vehicular movement.
During the protest, an unfortunate scuffle occurred near Sangang Saru Achouba Road between bandh supporters and a group of travellers over an argument.
Two bandh supporters reportedly suffered minor injuries and were later taken to Community Health Centre for medical attention.
Speaking at the sideline of the protest, Wahengbam Anita, a Meira Paibi leader, said the bandh was inevitable as the authorities had failed to repair the road despite repeated assurances.
"The Government was given a clear deadline till November 3.but no action has been taken.
This has compelled the villagers to initiate the indefinite bandh," she stated.
She further mentioned that although the local MLA has repeatedly assured that repair work would soon initiate, no progress has been made, and the road remains in a deplorable condition, causing severe inconvenience to foe public.
The Meira Paibi leader asserted that foe indefinite bandh will continue until concrete steps are taken to start repair work on foe highway.
