Taking serious note of an incident where a child was allegedly given corporal punishment in Catholic School, Canchipur, the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has registered a suo-motu case and summoned the school's Principal and a female teacher to appear before it on October 9 .
The child, a pre-primary student, was allegedly given corporal punishment at the school and a video of it had gone viral on social media.
Registering a suo-motu case under Section 13-14 of the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, the MCPCR, in its summons sent to the Principal and the teacher of the Catholic School, said their appearance is required for proper enquiry into the case.
The Principal and the female teacher shall appear before the Commission at 1 pm of October 9, said the MCPCR .
In case they refuse or don't appear without just excuse, a warrant will be issued to compel their attendance under the powers of a Civil Court vested upon the Commission under Section 14 of the CPCR Act, 2005, said the MCPCR's summons sent yesterday.
