Union minister reviews horticulture division of ICAR

Union minister of agriculture and farmers' welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed the horticulture division of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on Thursday, urging officials to work toward achieving top global productivity in horticulture.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ukhrul also participated in the programme via online, and highlighted their commitment to the development of horticulture research and its impact on local farmers.
The minister emphasised the rising demand for horticultural products, including fruits and vegetables, as socio-economic prosperity increases, and called for widespread campaign to popularise research in the sector.
He also highlighted the need for high-quality production and enhancing productivity across various horticultural crops, including special crops like cardamom, saffron, and black pepper.
The minister also stressed the importance of providing farmers with access to research and information to ensure they benefit from government schemes.
Chouhan also addressed the safe use of pesticides and the importance of supplying quality plant varieties to farmers through better nurseries.
