MU's Library Science Dept celebrates 40 years of excellence

Imphal, April 02 2026: The Department of Library & Information Science, Manipur University, marked a significant milestone today as it celebrated its 40th Anniversary, or Ruby Jubilee, at the department premises.

The event commemorated four decades of the department's remarkable achievements and invaluable contributions to the field of library and information science.

The celebration was graced by Prof Memcha Loitongbam, Dean, School of Social Sciences, MU and Prof Ch Ibohal Singh, Head, Department of Library & Information Science, MU as the chief guest & president respectively.

In her address, Prof Memcha lauded the department's accomplishments and highlighted the significant contributions of its alumni as professionals in various institutions both regionally and globally.

Prof Ch Ibohal emphasized the department's academic success, noting it has produced over 500 BLIS, 200 MLIS, and 42 PhD degrees to date.

Dr Kishorjit Nongmeikapam, Registrar IIIT, Manipur, delivered the Prof MR Kumbhar Memorial Lecture on "AI Tools for.

Research", exploring AI's impactful role in daily life and research.

The observance included a floral tribute to Prof MR Khumbhar, who initiated the department's establishment on April 2, 1986.The event featured a welcome address by Dr K Sangeeta Devi, an introductory speech by Dr Rajkumari Sofia Devi, and concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Kh Surachand Singh.

Faculty members, scholars, students, library professionals, and well-wishers attended the successful observance.
