President N Meino of Iroisemba Irong Laipham Thougal Lup, secretary S Merajao Meitei, president Irom Phulendro of NRPC and development officer Thounaojam Alexander of DoECC were present during the riverbank cleanliness drive cum environment awareness programme.
At the event, NRPC leader Phulendro highlighted the challenges faced by the Committee in spreading awareness about the save river initiative by erecting signboards in the Iroisemba area.
Most of the speakers in today's event including development officer Alexander expressed concern about the deteriorating condition of the rivers in the State as many still have the old mindset of using rivers and streams as a dumping site for garbage, pollution of the streams and rivers.
However, they appreciated the initiative taken up by the NRPC with the guidance of the DoECC, to rejuvenate and protect the rivers.
