Villagers demand clarification on highway expansion

In view of the notification regarding expansion of NH-39 at Lamkang Khunou village, locals of the area have urged the authority concerned to clarify whether the project is still underway, while demanding a written document to clarify if the project has been cancelled, within March 30.Speaking to media persons at Sangakpham today, Lamkang Khunou Village (NH-39)/ AH-01 Expansion/Construction Affected Compensation Committee chairman Sankhil Momo Darnong maintained that the villagers are in full support of the expansion of the National Highway and were happy when authorities notified about transforming the highway into an Asian Highway.
Demanding the authority concerned to render necessary compensation for those who have already been affected in the name of road expansion, the chairman appealed the authorities concerned not to initiate the construction work before providing compensation to the 50 affected households.
He further appealed to the authorities concerned to give the compensation according to the structure of the house and the area.
The authorities should notify/inform the villagers if the road expansion if happening or not so that the locals can shift their houses or settle down properly before monsoon arrives.
The Chandel DC, during a meeting, had assured the villagers including the chief, that the road expansion has been cancelled.
