Govt schools to surpass Pvt schools in 3 yrs

The State Government has taken a challenge to bring about quality education in Manipur through the Government schools and surpass the private schools in 2 to 3 years time.
This was announced by Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro while addressing the gathering at the inaugural function of Laingoubi Residential School under Kumbi Assembly Constituency in Bishnupur district today.
The newly constructed residential school was inaugurated as part of a tour programme conducted by the Minister to inspect developmental works being taken up in different parts of Bishnupur district.
Earlier to this, the Education Minister inaugurated another newly constructed residential school, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya at Moirang.
Speaking at the inaugural function of Laingoubi Residential School, Minister Okendro pointed out that unlike other States of the country, Manipur has the highest number of students studying in private schools while Tripura recorded the highest number of student enrollment in government educational institutes.
People in Manipur assume that Government schools are inferior while private schools are the best.
However, with the recent development in the education sector and demands of some student organizations to reform the existing education system, it is imminent that government schools would soon surpass the private schools in the providing quality education to the students.
The State Government has taken a challenge to bring in quality education through the Government schools and surpass the private schools in 2 to 3 years time, he added.
The Education Minister informed that the two residential schools having the enrollment capacity of 100 students each have been established under SSA Bishnupur district in accordance to the guidelines of Right to Education Act, 2009.Students in these two schools would enjoy all the benefits including free education, hostel, food, text books and other required study materials, etc as assured under the provisions of the Act upto class VIII.
The Minister assured that recruitment of teachers and other staffs in these two schools would be conducted on merit basis but preference would be given to the eligible and dedicated local candidates who have cleared BEd and Teacher Eligibility Test.
In order to provide a homely environment and holistic development of the students, the school buildings would also have the same textures including color and structure, the said.
While going around to inspect the premises of both the newly inaugurated schools, Education Minister Okendro also interacted with students and inquired about the quality of food and other facilities being provided, and asked the respective school wardens and cooks to take due care in performing their respective duties.
Furthermore, the Minister encouraged the students to directly approach him or any other officials of the Education Department or through post, email, newspapers, radio, etc if in case they have any grievances against the facilities being provided by the school authorities.
During the inspection tour, the Minister was accompanied by MLA of Moirang A/C and Parliamentary Secretary in charge of YAS & Tourism M Prithviraj, MLA of Kumbi A/C S Bira Singh, Director of Education (S) and State Project Director of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) H Deleep Singh, IAS and other officials of Zonal and Block Education offices.
