Imphal, March 10 2018:
The people of Mayang Imphal Maibam Mamang Leikai, were left fuming after Education Minister Th Radheshyam failed to turn up for inaugurating Maibam Palli High School, under Wabagai A/C, today.
The inauguration of the school was planned as a part of the continuous inauguration of various projects (from March 1 to March 15) in light of the completion of one year rule by the BJP led coalition Government in the State.
Apart from angering the people who had waited for the Minister to arrive and inaugurate the school since 10 am, the inauguration programme itself also had to be wrapped up.
The BJP State Government has made necessary arrangements to continuously inaugurate and hand over 100 projects to the people, within the first half of the month, to mark the completing of one year in office and the State Planning Department was tasked with the responsibility of organising the said, programmes.
As per the programme, the Education Department was supposed to inaugurate a total of 15 schools in various places like Jiribam, Mao, Kangpokpi and Imphal West, today.
It was also reported that Education Minister, Th Radheshyam himself would inaugurate all the said schools in person.
According to members of Maibam Social Welfare Club, the teachers of the school had made all the necessary arrangements for the inauguration of Maibam Palli High School, as the event with the Education Minister as the chief guest and Wabagai MLA (as well as Deputy Speaker) K Robindro as president, was to begin at 10 am.
Invitations were handed out and sign boards as well as posters were put up as well.
The members stated that a large number of village elders, club members and locals turned up for the programme from morning forgoing their lunch as they were told that the programme would not take long.
However, the people began to get restless when the VIPs failed to turn up even after 2 pm.
When the club members inquired as to why the Minister had not arrived yet, the teachers replied that they had little knowledge about the whole programme and it was organised by ZEO Thoubal and the invitations were printed and delivered from ZEO Thoubal side as well.
Not satisfied with the reply, the club members approached the local MLA Md Fajur Rahim, but he also claimed that he had no information regarding the programme nor was he informed by the State Government.
The members of Maibam Social Welfare Club further mentioned that when workers of MLA K Robindro (from the same Leikai), contacted the MLA, he told them that the programme was scheduled to start from 3 pm and that he would reach the venue by that time only.
After hearing the response, the people who had been waiting from the morning, began to get restless and angry.
The members explained that some officials of Thoubal ZEO also reached the venue but failed to provide any proper reply as to why the VIPs failed to turn up at the event, which prompted many locals and village elders to leave the venue.
Expressing disappointment with the failure to provide any information to the local MLA regarding the programme, the club members condemned the failure of the Education Minister to inaugurate the school and further claimed that the school, which was supposed to be inaugurated today, still has lots of pending construction works like missing ceilings, inadequate toilet facilities.
The members further appealed to the authority concerned to inaugurate the school only after all the necessary construction works are finished.
