Minor's girl body to be claimed, JAC vows to continue agitation until justice is delivered

The Joint Action Committee formed against the suspicious death of a minor girl has informed that family members will claim the mortal remains of the deceased and lay her to rest with the performance of final rites.
The female student from Thamnapokpi in Bishnupur district died by suicide on August 22 allegedly due to cyber harassment However, the JAC has warned that its agitation will continue until all culprits arrested by the police are awarded appropriate punishments as demanded by the public and the JAC.
While speaking to media persons at Thamnapokpi, JAC convenor M Muton said that timely action by the authorities in apprehending all culprits and the inconveniences caused to family as a result of last rites and other ritual ceremonies of the deceased left unperformed prompted the family to take the body after due consultation with the JAC and the people of the locality.
Despite the decision to claim the body, the JAC will continue its agitation until the culprits involved in the case are punished as per law, even if they are juveniles, Muton stated.
He further stressed that the steps taken by the JAC are aimed at preventing such unwanted crimes in the future and help save more lives from similar tragedies.
The JAC also appealed to civil society organisations of the State to support their movement.
Meanwhile, the Peace Committee Kangleipak, Manipur, led by its president Rajesh Meitei, along with its members today visited the residence of the deceased girl.
The committee extended essential items and financial aid to the bereaved family as a mark of solidarity.
