Jiribam, December 26 2025:
The United People's Front (UPF), Manipur, as part of its continued observance of Chahi Taret Khuntakpa Ningsingba Thouram under the theme "Akhoi Amuk Hanna Khuntaklaroisi", visited Ningsing Khun in Jiribam district and paid floral tributes to brave Manipuri heroes at the martyrs' memorial site.
Speaking on the occasion, UPF Manipur advisor L Jadumani said that since 2001, the organisation has been observing January 9 every year as Reconsolidation Day.
However, from 2024 onwards, with the objective of fostering unity among the people, the observance has been extended to Reconsolidation Month throughout January.
He stated that the main objective of the observance is to commemorate the "Seven Years Devastation" in Manipur's history and to ensure that such a dark chapter is never repeated.
The programme, he said, also aims to unite Manipuris scattered across various regions and inspire collective resolve for a united Manipur.
Jadumani stressed that the responsibility of ensuring that the period of devastation is never repeated lies with the present generation.
He added that similar programmes would be organised at various locations in the coming days as part of the month-long observance.
Meanwhile, a deliberation programme was also held at the Manipuri Boys' Hostel at Silchar Road Park, where UPF members discussed issues related to unity, history and the future of Manipur.
The meeting was attended by UPF president Nongthombam Rupachandra, Lairenlakpam Champalal, retired Superintendent of the Excise Department, Assam, RK Gopalsana, retired Secretary, Assam, A Nandababu, ACS, retired Additional Secretary of Assam, among others.
