COVID-19 NSUC urges public to stick to lockdown

Imphal, March 26 2020: In view of the outbreak of deadly virus known as coronavirus (COVID -19), a life-threatening disease which has already claimed thousands of lives around the world within a short period of times, the Naga Students Union Chandel (NSUC) opined that even the interior locations of the State, and Chandel District might be hit by the pandemic if the public ignore preventative measures.

As learnt, the virus is highly contagious and extremely aggressive, stated a statement of NSUC, saying that the country is in the midst of the worst global pandemic and this has necessitated stringent measures to contain the COVID-19 transmission.

Continuing that the only available way to prevent the virus from further spreading is through social distancing, Naga Students Union Chandel appealed youth/student community in particulars and public, in general, to adhere to the social instructions laid down by the Government and District Administration for the good of all.

Students coming home from outside of the district (Chandel) must quarantine themselves in isolation as quite a numbers of native students of the district have descended from corona infected cities/town.

However, instead of reporting to the concerned authority, they stayed at home causing panic in the surrounding, even endangering the family members as well.

These people should be identified & monitored carefully for any symptoms, otherwise, the whole community will be infested in case the virus is with them, the union lamented.

The union also informed all the constituent units (student unions under NSUC) to kindly extend fullest cooperation and support to the District Administration, and even volunteer if necessary to control and restrict unnecessary movement of the public.

The 21 days' lockdown announced by the Government should be followed in letter and in spirit in the district.

However, the immense difficulty faced by the public in availing essential commodities must be looked into, it said and urged the District Administration, Chandel to arrange adequate foodgrains and other commodities for the public to prevent hunger and starvation in the district.

The union also applauded Deputy Commissioner, District Police, Medical Departments & other stakeholders for their selfless work in containing the spread of Covid-19 within the district.
