Imphal, March 26 2020:
Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary D Raja, in a statement issued on March 25, said that the PM's financial package of Rs 15,000 crore for healthcare is very little.
National secretariat of CPI is of view that the amount announced by PM Modi as financial package for healthcare in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic is a meagre figure.
CPI considers that Government which has been pursuing pro-rich, pro-corporate policies and giving massive concession to them including cutting down corporate tax must now show some concern for poor people by imposing COVID-19 tax on all corporate so that the poor may get some relief, D Raja said.
Kerela has allotted Rs 20,000 crore as financial package, it also added.
He also pointed out that if Centre's allotment is distributed among its States, it comes to a meagre sum.
Further, PM Modi has not announced any relief package for the poor and unemployed.
Saying that the lockdown will leave daily wage earners and unemployed without minimum essentials, he appealed the Government to be more sensitive to poor section of people and raise the allotment accordingly.
