Imphal, June 24 2025:
The Imagi Meira has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to retract his statement characterizing the crisis in Manipur as an ethnic conflict.
Notably, Amit Shah, had a few days back, stated that the crisis is purely an ethnic conflict and installing a popular Government in the State would be challenging until there is consensus among the warring groups-Meetei and Kuki.
He had also stated that the Government is discussing the crisis at a political level and is hopeful to work out a solution soon.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club, Imagi Meira president Th Sujata claimed that the crisis in Manipur is a result of the genocidal campaigns carried out by Kukis against the Meetei people.
Continuing that there is ample evidence of the Kukis' genocide against the Meeteis, she urged the Government to stop politicizing the issue.
Sujata, meanwhile, claimed that the Central Government's machinery has been harassing and arresting people who support the idea of Manipur, but fail to take action against criminal activities in Kuki-dominated areas, as if no laws apply there, which she termed as biased.
The Government of India has been holding dialogue with Kuki militant groups which are under a Suspension of Operation pact that technically expired on February 29, 2024, and hasn't been renewed yet, despite their role in the conflict, she charged asking whether the Centre works at the behest of Kuki militant groups.
