Imphal, April 24 2026:
In a gesture of solidarity and support for the artistic community, the Manipur Nat Sankirtan Apunba (MNSA) has extended financial assistance to Chongtham Shanta, a dedicated artist of Manoharsai who has been unable to work due to heart-related ailments.
The assistance was handed over today during a brief ceremony, marking the third time the MNSA's Tengbang Lup has provided such aid.
The contribution of Rs 20,000 was collected through the collective efforts of the organization's members.
MNSA secretary Yumnam Bhumeshor emphasized that the organisation was formed in 2005 by senior Nat Sankirtan gurus to support artists facing physical or financial hardships.
Beyond financial aid, the MNSA aims to promote and protect Manipur's Nat Sankirtan, which is recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, he added.
He urged all artists to unite and work together to keep the traditional art forms alive for future generations.
The distribution event was attended by several dignitaries, including G Dharmadas, Joint Director of Art & Culture, and Dr Lukram Tamphamani, treasurer of MNSA.
MNSA reiterated its commitment to stand by artists who have dedicated their lives to culture, especially during illness and distress.
