Prof Jayanta named inaugural recipient of RIST Distinguished Scientist Award

The Executive Council of the Research Institute of Science and Technology (RIST) has instituted the "RIST Distinguished Scientist Award" and named Professor Jayanta Manoharmayum of the University of Sheffield, UK, as the inaugural recipient of the 2025 Award.
The award ceremony will be held on July 25 at 2 pm in the Conference Hall of the Physics Department, Manipur University.
According to a press release, Prof Manoharmayum Jayanta was born to late Manoharmayum Brajamani Sharma and is being honoured for his groundbreaking work in Number Theory.
His research resolved the longstanding inverse deformation problem and pioneered methods to lift Galois representations to characteristic zero for GLn, significantly advancing deformation theory and profinite group representations.
Professor Manoharmayum Jayanta will deliver a lecture titled "Some Mathematics of Euler" following the presentation.
RIST has invited young researchers, students and the public to attend the ceremony.
