Three sent to judicial custody

Imphal, June 21 2025:
Three persons arrested in connection with unlawful detention and murder of Chesam Abdul Kadir have been remanded to judicial custody till July 5 by Duty Magistrate First Class Imphal West today.
The three accused, Huidrom Somokanta of Yumnam Huidrom Khunyai, Huidrom Dipak Singh of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai and Thingujam Ranjit Singh of Yumnam Huidrom Khunyai Leikai were produced before the Court by a team of Wangoi police after the completion of the police custody period.
While the police prayed for judicial custody of the accused, the defense counsels filed remand objections along with prayers for releasing them on bail.
The Court after hearing the submission of prosecutor, defense counsel and perusal of the case record, remanded the three accused to judicial custody till July 5 for smooth investigation of the case.
It may be mentioned that altogether 9 persons including a woman have been arrested so far in connection with the case.
The other six accused persons including the woman may be produced before the Court on June 23 after the completion of their police custody period.
Chesam Abdul Kadir of Paobitek Mayai Leikai went out of his residence on June 10 and he went missing a day later after he was reportedly detained by some people at Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai.
Chesam Abdul Kadir was found dead and buried on the bank of Nambul River on June 17 morning at Shamurou Naorem Makha Leikai.
One of the main accused persons in the case, Longjam Khaba is evading police arrest.
