Imphal, February 20 2026: A pivotal State-Level Consensus Building Meeting under the Mental Health System Assessment initiative was successfully convened today at Sushruta Hall, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.

As per a release issued by RIMS, the meeting gathered key stakeholders, policymakers, health officials, and experts to deliberate on strengthening Manipur's mental health system.

The programme was graced by dignitaries, including Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal; Dr N Bino Singh, Director, Family Welfare, Manipur; and Dr N Hemantakumar Singh, Director, Health Services, Manipur.

Prof Brogen Singh Akoijam and Prof S Gojendra Singh are the Principal Investigators for NMHS-2, while Dr Mona Nongmeikapam and Dr Laishram Jalina serve as Co Principal Investigators.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sunil Kumar expressed pride in RIMS' involvement in NMHS-2, noted as one of the world's largest mental health surveys.

He highlighted the significant mental health burden in India and recent challenges faced by Manipur, emphasizing that the assessment will review infrastructure, service delivery, treatment gaps, governance, financing, and policy implementation.

Prof Brogen Singh presented an overview of the survey's objectives and methodology, stressing the need for data-driven planning and evidence-based interventions.

A subsequent Consensus Building Exercise facilitated constructive discussions and shared recommendations to strengthen service delivery and improve accessibility.

Meanwhile, the Medical Society of RIMS, Imphal, held its 6th Scientific Session for the academic year 2025-26 at Banting Hall.

The session provided a platform for research presentations and case discussions, with eight papers from multiple specialties presented and moderated by senior faculty members, reinforcing RIMS' commitment to academic excellence.
