Imphal, May 18 2025: Hours after it went viral on social media, police have dismissed a rumour about Kuki militants checking a vehicle for members of Meitei community on Imphal-Ukhrul road at Mahadev area yesterday night.

The checking of a vehicle last night at Sikibung village junction was done by Tangkhul volunteers stationed there to build confidence among visitors of Shirui Lily Festivals.

The checking was not done by any other miscreants.

"We are taking every possible measure for safe travel of every community to the Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul," clarified the police.

Notably, a rumour about Kuki militants stopping a Bolero vehicle belonging to a Tangkhul man travelling from Imphal to Ukhrul and checking for presence of Meiteis had gone viral on social media.

The rumour had created tension and panic among the public.

Meanwhile, the Ukhrul police have urged citizens to promptly report any incidents to their Control Room Number 8730090890.For report and assistance, citizens may also call Litan OC on 9862211526 or Additional SP Ukhrul on Mobile No 8729982754 .
