Imphal, May 17 2026:
The Kshetrigao Nupi Lamjing Lup, a collective of 46 meira paibi groups of Kshetrigao AC, has appealed to all sections not to politicise efforts to protect Leimaching hill.
At a meeting held at Thambalkhong Ima Keithel on Sunday, Lup president Longjam Damayenti said it was unfortunate that attempts were being made to destroy the hill at a time when the Government is taking steps to conserve forests and hills.
"Whether it is Khas land or patta land, do not destroy the existing hill", she said, adding that the Lup supports river embankment work but opposes hill excavation for filling materials.
Soil should be sourced from elsewhere, she said.
The Lup thanked the Forest Department for stopping excavation at Leimaching and urged continued vigilance.
Secretary Pangabam Anita said the Lup had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and welcomed the Government's action.
The meeting resolved to urge all local bodies and clubs in Kshetrigao AC to adopt' resolutions for the protection of Leimaching hill.
It also resolved to press Departments concerned to take early measures to prevent a repeat of the September 2025 flood in Kshetrigao AC; caused by a breach of the Iril river.
