Footbridge begins to tear up
Source: The Sangai Express
Imphal, October 15 2025:
The footbridge near Polo Ground along Bir Tikendrajit Road has developed holes due to rusting plates, posing a risk of collapse and causing panic among pedestrians.
It is reported that the footbridge's walkway plates are rusting and developing holes due to lack of maintenance, as rainwater leaks through the roof and falls directly onto them.
People are afraid to use the footbridge fearing it would collapse.

Notably, the footbridge has been invaluable for pedestrians, providing the only safe crossing over BT Road from the northern gate of Johnstone School to near Shamu Makhong.
Even though the footbridge was newly painted ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit on September 13, the rusted plates were neither repaired nor replaced.
