TSA wants Government to keep assurances

Kakching, April 13 2015 : During a visit to the Khengjoy Sub-Division, the Thadou Student's Association (TSA) submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner of Chandel, Robert Kshetrimayum at Hengshi Village in Chandel district last Saturday.

President of Thadou Student's Association Chandel, L Vum Khongsai handed over the memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner demanding him to materialise the assurances given by the Government to the people of Khengjoy into action.

The students' body in the memorandum stated that on the day of inaugurating Khengjoy Sub-Division in 2011, Chief Minister O Ibobi assured the people of the area to upgrade the Khengjoy Junior High School into High School besides upgrading the present PHSC to Primary Health Centre (PHC) and to make the Khengjoy Police Station fully functional.

In the memorandum, TSA also urged the State Government to set up a separate Educational Block for Khengjoy Sub-Division and to make every department reach out to the villages of the area among others.

Meanwhile, TSA strongly condemned the act of the personnel of 24 Assam Rifles personnel who were frisking vehicles along the National Highway 102 at Tengnoupal-Sita junction on April 11 .

Conveying their displeasure over the incident to the media persons, James Haokip, secretary TSA General Headquarters said that in contrast to the recent assurance given by the DIG 26 Sector Assam Rifles to the 'Joint Action Committee against the atrocities of Assam Rifles and Central Security forces in Chandel District's Tengnoupal village,' the 24 Assam Rifles personnel unnecessarily harassed and detained and hurled abusive words to a group of TSA members and another group of medical staff who were returning from Hengshi village after conducting a free medical camp yesterday.

He further said that the DIG has assured the people of the area and the JAC members that the Assam Rifles will not harass the commuters and detain them long as before while frisking vehicles.

However, the action of the 24 Assam Rifles personnel who were on duty along the NH-102 was in sharp contrast to the assurance given by the DIG and that the incident was a direct insult to people, rued James Haokip.

While maintaining that the students' body would not tolerate such irresponsible behavior of the Assam Rifles personnel and remain a mute spectator in future, the TSA leader also appealed to the higher authority of the paramilitary force to take up action against those undisciplined jawans and teach them lessons to become more civilian-friendly personnel.

He further demanded that only responsible and literate jawans should be deployed to conduct frisking and checking of vehicles along the highway.
