National conference, workshop begin

A 3-day workshop formasons on "Good Concreter Construction Practices" began today at the seminar hall of Institution of Engineers (India), Manipur State Centre in Government Polytechnic campus, Takyel.
The inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including Moirangthem Lokendro Singh, retired Chief Engineer (PWD) and former chairman of DEI Manipur State Centre; Aribam Joychandra Singh, former president of Manipur Architects' Forum; Dr Th Subhaschandra Singh, secretary, IEI Manipur State Centre; L Swamikanta Singh, chairman, IEI Manipur State Centre; and Th Subhokumar Meitei, convenor of the workshop.
At the event, the dignitaries shared that constructing a house without consulting with architects or structural engineers in earthquake-prone areas significantly increases the risk of damage or collapse during an earthquake.
They pointed out that improper design, weak foundations, and the use of unsuitable materials can lead to structural instability and failure, potentially causing significant harm to the inhabitants.
As part of the function, officials of Emoinu Construction Private Limited and Pisatao Construction were felicitated.
Meanwhile, a 2-Day National Conference on "North East India: A Way Forward", jointly organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Research Club of Dhanamanjuri (DM) University began today at the PG Science Block Conference Hall, DM University.
The inaugural function was graced by Prof W Chandbabu, Vice Chancellor, DM University; Prof RK London, Director, IQAC, DM University; and Prof Thiyam Rabikanta, Dean, Students Welfare as presidium members.
