Public meeting resolve to curb unhealthy practices in Meitei ceremonial rituals

Imphal, January 11 2026:
A public meeting to deliberate on the resolution adopted by the people of the State on August 10, 2024, aimed at restricting deteriorating practices and customs in Meitei ceremonial rituals, was held on Sunday at Keirenphabi Mayai Leikai Mandap.
The meeting was jointly organised by Keirenphabi Chanura Lishem Lup, Keirenpabi Sporting Club, New Era Social Upliftment Club, Keirenphabi, in collaboration with Enat Yokhatpa Luptin, Manipur (EYOL) .
As per a press note issued by Enat Yokkhatpa Luptin, Manipur (EYOL), the gathering unanimously adopted four key resolutions to preserve the sanctity and simplicity of traditional rituals.
The resolutions include restricting the introduction of "inappropriate practices" in traditional rituals, avoiding excessive expenditure during weddings, discontinuing practices such as cake cutting, exchange of rings and costly photo sessions, etc, on Heijingpot day, while emphasizing the use of traditional attire and locally produced items, and avoiding "sel thaba" competition and the custom of "bhabok mamai taba" during such events.
The meeting was attended by Longjamcha Sanathoi, vice-president of EYOL; Loitongbam Devachan, president of BAAL; Ningthoujam Yaimbi, secretary, Chanura Leishem Lup; Nepram Bimola, president of New Era Social Upliftment Club, among others as presidium members.
