Imphal, May 10 2026:
Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata on Sunday inaugurated the new extension building of Yaiskul Athletic Club (YAC) at Yaiskul Moirangkhom, Imphal, and urged people to adopt a long-term vision while taking up development work for public welfare.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Speaker said society cannot progress without development, and a good State cannot exist without a developed society.
"When we take up significant development work that will remain in the future, we must look beyond shortterm gains and consider the future.
Work should be taken up where it is needed", he said.
He called on clubs, organisations and residents of Yaiskul AC to approach him with local grievances and issues.
"Let us sit together, discuss what can be done, and work together", he said.
Satyabrata stressed that development must continue in line with people's wishes and public interest.
"Development work never ends.
A road that is built will again deteriorate.
Maintenance is also necessary", he said.
He said orders had been issued to a company to lay concrete rigid pavement on several roads in Yaiskul AC, but the work was not seen to be satisfactory.
"Repair of many intervening roads is underway.
Focus is being given to further development works in Yaiskul AC", he added.
The Speaker said that even when work is done with sincerity, some people try to misrepresent it and obstruct progress.
"Such things are now happening in Yaiskul AC", he said.
He added that when mistakes occur in works taken up by an elected representative, people should jointly correct them.
"But it is wrong to attempt to portray the representative as worthless on TV discussions and in public.
Such acts should not be done in future", he said.
He asserted that experts speaking on TV discussions should use respectful language while referring to public representatives.
Satyabrata urged elders and experts to give constructive suggestions if errors are found in his work.
"Point out the mistakes and suggest how it should be done or said.
I will try to implement such suggestions", he said.
YAC president Sorokhaibam Sharatchandra said the club was established on August 15, 1947, and is one of the oldest clubs in Manipur.
"Clubs have many benefits and play a major role in developing an area", said Sharatchandra adding that YAC has produced many noted sportspersons in different disciplines.
Club general secretary M Santosh, former office bearers and advisors also attended the function.
A minute's silence was observed in memory of deceased former office bearers of the club.
