Imphal, February 09 2026:
The Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB) has announced plans to establish a Study Centre for the Philosophy of Sanamahism (Sanamahi Culture Study Centre) at the Manipur University of Culture (MUC), with classes starting in June of this year.
LSTB member secretary Maisnam Sivadutta Luwang revealed the development during a certificate distribution ceremony held today at the Lainingthou Sanamahi Shanglen in Haying Khongbal Uphong Yumpham.
The initiative, which has been pursued by the LSTB for the past two to three years, aims to systematically study and teach the philosophy of Sanamahism, which is considered vital for understanding the region's culture and traditions.
The plan faced delays due to civil unrest and financial constraints, which prevented the budget from being included earlier.
The new centre at the university will focus primarily on the theoretical aspects of philosophy.
For practical field assessments, the Lainingthou Sanamahi Shanglen has been designated as the appropriate location, a plan that has received about 98% approval.
Sivadutta Luwang highlighted efforts to raise the Shanglen to institutional status and create a dedicated research hub for Sanamahism scholars from across locations.
He also announced an end to casual fortune-telling by Maibas and Maibis at the Khenchanglon Loishang, stressing the need for deeper faith understanding ahead.
The event marked the close of a six-month certificate course in "Apoklon Eba amadi Yengba," with certificates given to 85 participants.
The event was attended by several LSTB members, including vice-president Vidyapati Senjam, Keisham Ibomcha, Namoijam Tomba Mangang, and Tongbram Premjit Meitei, alongside Panji Akoijam Haridas from Wangkhei Konsam Leikai.
