Imphal, May 08 2026: Citing Government failure to initiate road repair work along vital routes in Imphal East, meira paibis and clubs of Nongmeibung and Soibam Leikai launched a road blockade at Old Checkon and Porompat crossing from this morning.

According to Nongmeibung Old Checkon Meira Paibi representative Irom Indubala, some of the most crucial roads in Imphal East district along which Government institutes and significant public spaces are located such as JNIMS Hospital, DC office, Porompat Water Supply, Porompat Police Station, Ayangpalli Lamlong Bazar etc were renovated two years ago with substandard materials, as a result of which the roads are in an abysmal condition now.

These roads are filled with large potholes which pose safety hazards to commuters and have led to numerous accidents, she said.

Accusing the Government of disregarding multiple appeals by local clubs and meira paibis to repair the roads, she said the road blockade was initiated in response to lack of action from the authorities.

The blockade will continue until the Government commences road repair work, she declared.
