MHJU reaffirms commitment to responsible journalism

CCpur, September 07 2026: On the occasion of its 42nd foundation day, the Manipur Hill Journalists' Union (MHJU) extended greetings to all the members, veterans, editors, correspondents and video journalists working tirelessly across the hill districts of Manipur.

In a press release, general secretary of the union S Nengkhanlun said that for forty-two years, the union has served as the apex frontline collective safeguarding freedom of expression, protecting the welfare of hillbased press workers and ensuring the voice of the grassroots reaches the corridors of power.

In a special message addressed to the media fraternity, the general secretary expressed gratitude to every member who has stood by the union.

To mark this milestone, the office of the general secretary outlined a reinforced roadmap for the upcoming year wherein the union will actively engage with the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) to clear pending advertising bills, enhance the journalists' pension framework and secure infrastructure development for press clubs in all hill district headquarters.

With the aim to combat misinformation, the union will launch specialized factchecking and digital safety workshops to empower reporters amidst the rapid expansion of digital media platforms.

Furthermore, it will partner with sister organisations like the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and the Editors Guild Manipur (EGM) to foster a responsible media landscape that bridges divides and builds mutual trust.

The general secretary also called upon all district units and members to remain united, objective and courageous in their duties.
