30th Pumlen Day celebrated at Tokpaching with call for conservation of Pumlen Pat

In a concerted effort to protect and conserve Pumlen Pat, the second largest lake in Manipur, the Pumlen Lake Development Organisation (PLDO), Tokpaching, organised the 30th Pumlen Numit (Pumlen Day) celebration at the ground of Tokpaching Welfare Association located at Tokpaching Awang Leikai.
The event was graced by Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam as the chief guest, Project Director of Loktak Development Authority, Ng Sanajaoba Meitei as the functional president; and Kakching Khunou College principal O Binoy as guest of honour.
The highlight of the celebration featured a bike rally to raise awareness on the need to protect and conserve Pumlen Pat and its surrounding environment, followed by a series of vibrant cultural performances.
During the programme, speakers and dignitaries highlighted the urgent need for sustainable conservation of Pumlen Pat.
They urged the Government to develop the lake as a tourist site and to take necessary steps for its long-term preservation.
Speakers also urged the Government of Manipur and local authorities to declare Pumlen Day as a special day either at the State-level or for Kakching district, acknowledging its environmental and cultural significance.
The celebration concluded with renewed commitment from the organisers, local leaders, and participants to safeguard Pumlen Pat for future generations and to continue awareness efforts on its
ecological importance.
