Manipuri (Meitei) Mumbai Association celebrates Ningol Chakkouba

The Manipuri (Meitei) Mumbai Association celebrated Ningol Chakkouba in a unique and heart-warming way this year, combining the spirit of tradition with recognition of excellence across disciplines.
The celebration, attended by around 200 participants from Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and Pune, turned into a vibrant showcase of Manipuri culture, unity, and pride in achievements.
As per a release issued by Manipuri (Meitei) Mumbai Association, the event began with a cultural song dedicated to Ningols, honouring their in-valuable role in nurturing family bonds and preserving social harmony among Manipuris.
Dressed gracefully in traditional Manipuri attire, Ningols arrived at the venue carrying fruits in ornate plates, symbolizing prosperity and affection.
Adding to the festive mood, children presented songs, dances, and cultural performances, reflecting the rich heritage of Manipur.
Awards were also presented to encourage young talents.
The Senior Children Excellent Drawing Award was given to Aanganxia Thokchom; the Junior Children Excellent Drawing Award to Preetika Chanu and Lamyanbi Nahakpam; the Excellent Recitation Award was presented to Advay Washikar.
A highlight of the evening was the felicitation of distinguished Ningols and Pibas (brothers) who have made outstanding contributions in diverse fields.
'Most Research Paper Publication' - Dr Raghumani Ningthoujam, Scientist Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, in recognition of his authorship of over 250 research papers, five volumes of books, and inclusion in the World's Top 2% Scientists list.
'Science Popularisation' - Dr Dewan Thokchom, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Mumbai, for his two-decade-long effort in promoting science across schools, colleges, and universities.
'Theoretical Research' - Dr Guneshwor Laishram, Scientist, Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Mumbai, for his significant contributions in theoretical research.
'Distinguished Service' - Mutum Biswanath, Director, Wateraid, for his outstanding professional leadership in the fields of livelihoods, energy, and sports; and promotion of constructive discourses among the community.
In the field of sports, the association proudly honoured Manipuri athletes for bringing glory to the nation: Outstanding Sports Awards- Kshetrimayum Tingongleima, Hockey Player (Arjuna Awardee), Waikhom Surajlata Devi, Hockey Player (Arjuna Awardee), Victo Kshetrimayum, International Hockey Player, and Manorama Goswami, International Hockey Player.
Dr Choudhurimayum Deepmala Sharma was felicitated for getting an Honorary Doctorate for Leadership Development.
The event reflected the unity and pride of the Manipuri diaspora in Mumbai, demonstrating how cultural traditions like Ningol Chakkouba can serve as a bridge connecting generations and inspiring excellence beyond borders.
