MTU, CIPET join hands to strengthen academic collaboration, research & skill development

In a landmark development for technical education in the State, Manipur Technical University (MTU) and the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET: CSTS, Imphal) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 3, 2025 to strengthen academic collaboration, research, and skill development.
As per a release issued by MTU, the MoU, signed by Professor W Chandbabu Singh.
Vice-Chancellor of MTU, and Sagolsem Itomba, Technical Officer/In-charge of CIPET: CSTS Imphal, marks the beginning of a five-year partnership aimed at bridging industry-academia gaps and nurturing innovation among students and researchers.
Under the agreement, MTU and CIPET will collaborate in key areas such as: Joint research and dissertation opportunities for Diploma, BTech, M Tech, and research scholars; Establishment of incubation centres to promote entrepreneurship and innovation; Exchange of expert lectures, technical inputs, and workshops to enhance knowledge sharing; Access to laboratories, project facilities, and technical expertise between the two institutions; and cooperation in client-based projects, with shared technical and financial participation.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Chandbabu Singh emphasized that the collaboration will create new avenues for students to gain hands-on experience and contribute to solving real-world challenges.
He noted that the MoU aligns with the vision of MTU in producing technically strong, research-driven engineers for the future.
Highlighting the role of CIPET, Sagolsem Itomba stated that the partnership would leverage the national expertise in petrochemicals engineering and skilling, while providing opportunities for local students to engage in high-impact projects and industrial collaborations.
The strategic alliance between MTU and CIPET is a major step towards building an innovation-driven ecosystem in the Northeast, ensuring that students, researchers, and industries benefit equally from the partnership.
