Imphal, May 03 2026:
The Manipur Home Guard Employees Welfare Association (MHGEWA) has called upon the State Government to include Home Guards in the Home Department's upcoming recruitment and address long-standing grievances regarding pay & vacancies.
Addressing media persons today at the association's office in Luwangsangbam, MHGEWA president Y Mangi Singh reacted to recent reports regarding the Government's intent to fill vacant posts.
He urged the authorities to ensure that the Home Guard wing is not overlooked in these recruitment drives.
He said Manipur's Home Guard strength is far below the 3,030 personnel mandated by the Ministry of Home Affairs for every State and UT, and many posts remain vacant.
A proposal recommended by the Director General of Police (DGP) is pending with the Home Department for the recruitment of 400 personnel each for Kakching and Jiribam districts, Mangi said.
He urged authorities to act on existing recommendations to recruit personnel into Grade C and Grade D positions within the department.
Mangi emphasized that Home Guards are ready to serve in all areas, including the State's hill districts, to maintain law and order.
However, he expressed deep dissatisfaction with the current financial treatment of the personnel.
"Despite working day and night, our personnel are only receiving a 14% Dearness Allowance (DA).
This is insufficient.
We demand that the Government increase this to 42% and provide the entitled ration money immediately", Mangi stated.
MHGEWA has submitted written demands to the Chief Minister, Union Home Minister and Director General of Home Guards.
