Phungyo Baptist Church welcomes New Year 2026 with fasting prayer, cultural and sporting events

Ukhrul, January 02 2026: The Phungyo Baptist Church (PBC), Ukhrul - the first established Church in Manipur - welcomed the New Year2026byorganisinga special fasting prayer programme, seeking God's guidance for a blessed year ahead and praying for peace and harmony in the State.

The solemn prayer service was led by Wungnaokan Samrar, Home Evangelist of PBC, Ukhrul, who delivered a spiritually enriching message highlighting core Christian values such as love, compassion, forgiveness, honesty and humility.

He emphasised that these values are essential for building a holistic and peaceful society where all communities can coexist harmoniously.

Extending New Year greetings to the congregation, Samrar urges believers to live exemplary lives by practicing good deeds and compassion, upholding true Christian values as taught by Lord Jesus Christ, and maintaining meaningful relationships with neighbours and society at large.

As part of renewed self-commitment in Christ, an intercessory prayer session was conducted and led by church leaders including Joyson Shaiza, Dharmathing Chiphang, Shimtharla Chiphang, Mathunmi Wungleng, Themshang Kasom, Shmwon Shaiza, Manak Rumthao, Ayozan Kasar, Ikrorthei Chiphang and Yomishon Luikham.

The prayers were offered to strengthen the faith of the congregation as they stepped into the New Year.

To mark the welcoming of 2026, a series of vibrant cultural programmes were also organised, featuring performances, choreography, quarted presentations and literary items, adding colour and joy to the celebration.

It may be mentioned that the Christmas and New Year celebrations at PBC, Ukhrul are observed as a week-long event.

Traditional games such as tug of war and races, along with Christmas shows, attracted a large number of town residents.

Various sporting events, including football tournaments for boys and girls in under-13, intermediate, and senior categories, were also held during the celebrations.

The programme concluded with the serving of New Year coffee to all attendees at PBC, Tangrei, Ukhrul, symbolising the message that service to humanity is service to God.
