Court grants bail to accused

Imphal, October 30 2025:
Chief Judicial Magistrate Bishnupur has awarded bail to one Mayengbam Ibomcha (52), arrested in connection a firing incident at Saiton Bazar during a musical concert on October 22 in which one 20-year-old, Nongmaithem Alex of Kumbi Thong Leikai was injured.
The accused, Mayengbam Ibomcha hails from Saiton Mamang Leikai.
He was arrested on October 25 after he surrendered before the Court.
He was then remanded to police custody.
Ibomcha was produced before the Court yesterday on completion of the police custody period.
The shooting at the musical concert at Saiton Bazar occurred during a scuffle among spectators at around 11 pm.
Multiple persons were injured in the physical altercation.
The next day, a complaint was filed with the police stating one Nongmaithem Alex had suffered bullet injury on his left leg while attending the concert.
In the Court, the prosecutor said the police have seized one 7.76 mm Falcon Pistol, two empty magazines and 28 live cartridges from the accused.
The accused claimed the shot that injured Alex was fired accidentally.
After a scuffle near the venue was put to rest, the accused claimed he talked to some youths advising them against bursting firecrackers.
The accused claimed the unknown youths then surrounded him and started pushing and pulling.
Fearing his license gun could be snatched, he tightly held on to it but slipped tearing part of the pocket and a shot was accidentally fired hitting an unknown youth on his leg.
The Court, after hearing the submissions of the prosecutor and defense counsel, ordered the release of the accused on bail on execution of Rs 1 lakh PR bond.
